Research Interests
Dr. Aaron is a respirologist with special research and clinical interests in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), asthma and cystic fibrosis (CF). Dr. Aaron's research has been focused on investigating acute pulmonary exacerbations of these diseases, with a specific interest in the critical assessment of interventions designed to prevent exacerbations and improve the diagnosis and treatment of exacerbations of COPD and CF. His other major interest is health services research related to the correct diagnosis and treatment of obstructive lung diseases in Canadian communities.

Dr. Aaron is Principal Investigator and Director of The Canadian Respiratory Research Network, a CIHR Emerging Research Network whose goal is to bring together researchers across disciplines to work together in a coordinated fashion in order to improve understanding of the origins and progression of chronic airway diseases in Canada.

Dr. Shawn Aaron is a Professor at The University of Ottawa and a Senior Scientist at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute. Dr. Aaron received his M.D.C.M. from McGill University, then trained in internal medicine, respiratory medicine, and critical care medicine at The University of Toronto. He joined the Department of Medicine in Ottawa in 1996 and obtained his MSc degree in epidemiology from the University of Ottawa in 1999.

Gastrointestinal Research and Treatment
As a general surgeon and surgical oncologist, Dr. Anton Bilchik takes part in research activities at the Saint John’s Cancer Institute. With a specialization is gastrointestinal cancer research, Dr. Bilchik and his team have pioneered many advances, including the first prospective international clinical trials for colon cancer. For more than 22 years, Dr. Bilchik has investigated and treated some of the more complex cancers involving the pancreas, liver, and colon. By utilizing minimally evasive surgical techniques, outcomes are improved, while patients are able to recover more quickly.

Jack Chang, M.D., is a graduate of Yale University and the University of British Columbia Medical School. After completing his postgraduate training in Prince George, BC, he started his career serving rural and remote communities in BC, Yukon, and Nunavut before joining Pollock Clinics in 2014. Dr. Chang has studied under some of the most renowned vasectomy physicians in North America and under Dr. Pollock for circumcision. I proposed, developed and now practice at an Occupational and Urgent Care Clinic at the world's largest Nuclear Power generation facility. I am also the Chief Physician at this facility where I assist in Disability Management, Return to Work, Occupational Health and Medical Arbitration cases. Dr. Jeannette Janzen graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in Medicine after which she completed her Family Medicine Residency at McGill University. She has been following her patients in family practice for over 30 years at GMF Stillview in Pointe Claire where she was an integral part of the growth and development of the clinic which flourishes today. You might say Pathology is in my blood. I was born and raised in Sudbury, Ontario by a Blood Bank Technologist (mother) and cytotechnologist (father). I came to beautiful British Columbia for University, and fell in love with Pathology during my Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (BMLSc.) program. Following my undergraduate program, I worked for a year as an immunohistochemistry technologist at the Genetic Pathology Evaluation Centre (GPEC) and decided to pursue medical school.  Throughout my medical school career I was drawn not only to Pathology, but came to love learning about hematology as well. I decided to marry the two interests and pursue a career in Hematological Pathology. While in residency training, I pursued extra training in laboratory quality management and completed the UBC POLQM Laboratory Quality Management Certificate course.  Following residency, I joined the VGH division of Hematopathology. I am a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with special interest in primary and revision hip/knee replacement surgery and orthopaedic trauma. My early surgical training was in mid-west Ireland. Orthopaedic higher surgical training was completed in Sheffield. I pursued my sub-specialty interest in hip and knee revision surgery and trained in Glasgow with further fellowships in the USA and Canada. My training in orthopaedic trauma was at Imperial College London and later at University of British Columbia, Vancouver. I work as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals.

I have published on a variety of orthopaedic conditions and also teach at national orthopaedic courses. I treat a variety of hip and knee disorders, including traumatic conditions.

Dr. Gelareh Noureddin is a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of British Columbia. She completed her medical school and residency training at UBC where she served as Chief Resident.

As a Comprehensive Ophthalmologist, Dr.Noureddin welcomes referrals for all eye diseases. She has a special interest in cataract and cataract surgery, and operates at the Vancouver General Hospital Eye Care Centre.

She has been the recipient of numerous awards, including the UBC National Scholarship, the Gwynne-Vaughan Memorial Award in Medicine, the Eric L. Smith M.D. Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology, the Constance Eden Dingwall Scholarship in Ophthalmology and the Resident Teaching Award in 2020. Dr. Sachedina completed medical school and residency training at the University of British Columbia. She was the recipient of the Friedman Award for Scholars in Health from UBC, The Detweiler Travelling Fellowship from the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada, and the Allen-Carey Scholarship in Women’s Health from the London Health Sciences Institute.

Dr. Sachedina completed a fellowship in Pediatric & Adolescent Gynaecology at the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. Her interests include the gynaecologic care of survivors of childhood cancer, including oncofertility, the surgical management of Müllerian anomalies, complex contraception, and care of patients with differences in sexual development.


She has joined the UBC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as a Clinical Assistant Professor, and the medical staff at BC Women’s Hospital, BC Children’s Hospital and Vancouver General Hospital.

Dr. Sartor received his MD from Tulane University School of Medicine with honors in 1982. After an internship at the University of Pennsylvania, he trained in internal medicine at Tulane Medical School. After completing a fellowship at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) in Bethesda, Maryland in 1989, he served until 1993 as a senior investigator at the NCI and began focusing on novel therapeutics for advanced prostate cancer patients. Dr. Sartor returned to Louisiana in 1993 to serve as an Associate Professor at the LSU Medical School in Shreveport and then moved to the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans in 1998 as the Patricia Powers Strong Professor of Oncology, the Stanley S. Scott Cancer Center Director, and the Hematology/Oncology Section Chief. He was the Co-Director of the Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium, starting at its legislative inception in 2002. In March 2006, he left LSU to join the Lank Center for Genitourinary Oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and the Harvard Medical School. In January 2008, Dr. Sartor joined Tulane University as the C. E. and Bernadine Laborde Professor of Cancer Research in the Departments of Medicine and Urology.

An internationally recognized expert in prostate cancer, Dr. Sartor’s interests have focused broadly on prostate cancer, predominantly in those patients who failed initial therapies. His publications range from genetic studies on prostate cancer to clinical trials involving novel agents. He has been a lead author on two studies pivotal for FDA drug approval in prostate cancer and has been the PI or co-PI on a number of prospective international clinical trials evaluating new therapies for patients with advanced prostate cancer.

Having published over 500 scholarly articles and having served as the past Chairman of the Department of Defense Prostate Integration Panel, Dr. Sartor, in addition to being the C.E. and Bernadine Laborde Professor of Cancer Research in the Departments of Medicine and Urology, is the Medical Oncology Chair of the GU Committee of the NRG, the Assistant Dean for Oncology at Tulane University School of Medicine, the Medical Director of the Tulane Cancer Center, and the Editor-in-Chief of the peer-reviewed journal, Clinical Genitourinary Cancer. In addition, he is currently a member of the NCI Board of Scientific Counselors (Clinical Sciences and Epidemiology).
